Part time: 0.5 FTE

Role Summary:

The Registered Dietitian is responsible for providing resident nutrition and hydration care and documenting this care in compliance with regulatory standards as well as Willow Lodge policy and procedure. All resident nutritional status will be assessed on admission and every six months thereafter or whenever there is a significant change in status. The Dietitian will develop the home’s seasonal menus in collaboration with resident council and care partners, including those for therapeutic and texture-modified diets and snack menu. Responsible for monthly submission to in house newsletter and participation in the Dining Enhancement Committee, weekly multidisciplinary meetings, pharmacy meetings and yearly care plan reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science with Major in Human Nutrition required.
  • Completion of an approved Dietetic Internship.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in Long Term Care an asset.
  • Current Membership in Nova Scotia Dietetic Association required.
  • Membership in Dietitians of Canada preferred.
  • Certificate of management level food safety program. ADVANCED.fst by TrainCAN.
  • Registered trainer of TRAINCAN’s BASICS.fst an asset.
  • Working knowledge of RIM (Resident Information Manager) an asset.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication, critical thinking, care coordination, time management and customer focus skills.
  • Exhibits creative problem-solving ability; ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines and committees to achieve excellence in resident care.
  • Familiar with Dietitian’s of Canada documents “Dietitians of Canada Best Practices for Nutrition and Dining in Long Term Care” and “Menu Planning in Long Term Care and Canadas Food Guide 2019”.
  • Must have proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Current (within 6 months) Criminal Records Screen for the Vulnerable Sector.

Job Summary:

Continuing Care Assistant is responsible for providing direct and indirect Resident care under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and/or Director of Resident Care.  The CCA works within his/her scope of practice and follows established facility policies and procedures while providing care, and coordinates resident care with other departments within Willow Lodge.

 

Responsibilities/Duties:

 

  1. Must have completed Continuing Care Assistant’s Course.
  2. Must embrace the Eden philosophy in alleviating the 3 plagues of loneliness, helplessness and boredom.
  3. Must be physically and mentally suitable for employment.
  4. Must demonstrate effective communication skills – verbal, oral and written.

Environmental Care Partners are responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness within Willow Lodge and maintaining an adequate supply of clean linen and clothing.

 

Food Service Care Partner is a team player who displays understanding of the needs of our Residents, while providing a pleasant dining experience.

 

General Qualifications, Knowledge, Education and Skills:

  1. High School diploma desirable or equivalent
  2. Must have WHMIS.
  3. Completion of Alzheimer’s Course an asset.
  4. Must demonstrate a personality compatible to this position with a genuine concern for the elderly and mentally/physically challenged.
  5. Must be in good physical and mental health.
  6. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, oral, verbal and written.
  7. Must demonstrate initiative.
  8. Must be able to work every second weekend.
  9. Experience working with the elderly and mentally challenged adults considered an asset.
  10. Good people skills.
  11. Must demonstrate initiative.
  12. Must be able to take direction and accept constructive feedback.

 

Food Service Knowledge, Education and Skills:

  1. Must have Food Handlers Course.
  2. Must have some experience in food preparation and an understanding of special diets.
