Maintenance Worker – Full Time Position 

Willow Lodge Association is a non-profit organization that is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors elected from the community. Presently operating a 61 bed Nursing Home licensed by the Department of Health. 


Reporting to the Director of Operations, Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of routine building operations and maintenance functions and is an integral part of the staff team; 

  • • General maintenance tasks such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, yard work, including lawn mowing and snow removal, moving equipment, and related general tasks, while maintaining quality standards of workmanship. Carries out minor renovations as required. 
  • • Keeps Director of Operations informed of work activities, needs and problems of assigned work and projects, code violations and insufficiencies. 
  • • Performs preventative maintenance routines on building, portable and built-in facility equipment, as well as maintenance equipment. 
  • • Keep appropriate records, i.e. daily/weekly/monthly log sheet. 
  • • Maintains safety standards and procedures according to regional guidelines and building codes. 
  • • Responds to work orders that are generated daily with the ability to be proactive in maintaining day to day operations. 
  • • Monthly Fire Drills and associated reports to ensure provincial licensing standards are met. 
  • • Work with other co-workers, service representatives, and contractors for proper repair and maintenance of equipment. 
  • • Performs repairs and maintenance to interior of building including minor repairs to equipment, routine and preventative maintenance to Resident Rooms and common areas. 
  • • Replenishing supplies and keeps equipment clean and in good working order. 
  • • Unload incoming supplies from trucks and store supplies in designated areas. 
  • • Available for call-ins outside regular work hours from time to time. 
  • • Participate in continuing education monthly provided by Willow Lodge, including WHMIS. 

Education and Experience 

Previous experience in construction or building maintenance 

Minimum of 5 years’ experience 

Basic computer skills including experience with work order and building automation systems, email, etc. 

Aware NS Training would be an asset 

OH&S Training would be an asset 

Nova Scotia Safety Council Training would be an asset

As a team leader, you will be involved in all aspects of unit activities in the provision of nursing care to the resident. The Nurse actively participates in the nursing process to meet the specific needs of residents as individuals ensuring current gerontological practice. The Nurse practices within the scope of the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as defined by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia or the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Nova Scotia.


Qualifications, Knowledge, Education, and Skills:


–          Graduate of an approved Nursing Program and current registration with CRNNS or CLPNNS, Current First Aid and CPR

–          Demonstrate competence in assessments, clinical care, and care planning

–          Demonstrate a caring and compassionate attitude toward residents, recognizing Willow Lodge as their home

–          Demonstrate interest and ability in a leadership role

–          Excellent communication skills along with ability to adapt and cope with change

–          Demonstrate initiative in gerontology and self-growth in this field

–          Physically able to perform job duties with minimum supervision

–          Medication administration, give direction and support

Job Summary:

Continuing Care Assistant is responsible for providing direct and indirect Resident care under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and/or Director of Resident Care.  The CCA works within his/her scope of practice and follows established facility policies and procedures while providing care, and coordinates resident care with other departments within Willow Lodge.




  1. Must have completed Continuing Care Assistant’s Course.

Casual Floater –Environmental Services (Laundry Services, Housekeeping) & Food Service (Dietary Aid)


Job Summary:

Environmental Care Partners are responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness within Willow Lodge and maintaining an adequate supply of clean linen and clothing.


Food Service Care Partner is a team player who displays understanding of the needs of our Residents, while providing a pleasant dining experience.


General Qualifications, Knowledge, Education and Skills:

  1. High School diploma desirable or equivalent
  2. Must have WHMIS.
  3. Completion of Alzheimer’s Course an asset.
  4. Must demonstrate a personality compatible to this position with a genuine concern for the elderly and mentally/physically challenged.
  5. Must be in good physical and mental health.
  6. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, oral, verbal and written.
  7. Must demonstrate initiative.
  8. Must be able to work every second weekend.
  9. Experience working with the elderly and mentally challenged adults considered an asset.
  10. Good people skills.
  11. Must demonstrate initiative.
  12. Must be able to take direction and accept constructive feedback.


Food Service Knowledge, Education and Skills:

  1. Must have Food Handlers Course.
  2. Must have some experience in food preparation and an understanding of special diets.
  3. Must be able to follow direction in providing Residents diets.
  4. Must be flexible.
